The Sunken Boat reading group read about some children who baked their grandmother’s carrot cake recipe for her birthday. Which is what they did. We all enjoyed the recipe.
Snow at home. We awoke to the white stuff lying all round our house and the eiry silence that the ground covered with snow has. For the entire morning we continued to get snow, hail and sleet showers then at 1.30 the sun came out. The forest surrounding our house started to rain. No, seriously it did! The heat from the sun quickly melted the snow that had settled on the branches and it was was now falling just like rain.
We decided to make a break for it and take Tig for a walk around the block before the weather changed again. You will see that I have a mixture of photos from different times of the day. I hope you enjoy
We had a yummy shared lunch for Tyrone’s last day at school last friday. We had chips, pizza, chicken kebabs, cake and other yummy food. Tyrone has been at our school for 51/2 years and has lots of friends. We hope that he enjoys Te Anau.
update from Mrs H
Great news, Martha won the Western Speech finals and now goes onto the Northern/Western finals. We are all very proud of her.
Other class news is that we farewelled Tahi last Friday and tomorrow Tyrone will be leaving. We hope that they have a great time at their new homes and enjoy their schools.
Unfortunately Tahi arrived in Christchurch and has been involved with the earthquakes. She is okay. We had a BBQ today and will have a mufti-day tomorrow with the money raised going into the the Mayor’s Earthquake Relief Fund.
Finally, how are we going with our picks for the ITM cup and the Heartland series you might ask. Well… not that good actually after a very good start. However as we have been told, that the competition is not over until the fat lady sings so there is hope for us yet. Speaking of rugby, Jordan from our class got into the Southland U38kg team. Awesome stuff. Go the mighty Stags
This week we held the qualifying and finals for our school speech competition.
Mrs H was proud of all of us and we got an ice block. Well, all except me, Tipene because I was sick. We had 6 from our class in the finals and they did a fantastic job.
Max F and Martha are through to the Western finals. Max S got a close third.
Tipene and Kaleb
Last week the year 6s did bread making. It was lots of fun. We made chelsea
buns. on Friday we made our own buns. Mrs H didn’t think mine would rise because I was being rough with my dough. Our group change the original recipe by adding more yeast and sugar. It dough really rose up but the bread collasped.
This is Mrs H’s awesome netball team, Southland Girls High School 10B. As a team they are a great bunch of girls. A fortnight ago they played James Hargest Snr C and won to qualify them for the final on Saturday. In the final they faced a very strong Makarewa team. They started the game with vigour, determination, committment, team work and a belief in themselves. Perviously, Makarewa had beaten them by 7 goals. As the game progressed the crowd swelled and the level of cheering soared when it became clear that this game was going to the wire. Goal for goal it went so that at full time the scores were locked. The game would continue for another 9 minutes and 30 seconds before Makarewa managed to secure the win, that being gained a 2 goal lead.
One of the great things about this game was the way the two teams joined together at the end congratulating each other on the spirit of the game and out of respect for the skill level on both sides. Mrs H was really proud of the way her team played and although they didn’t win (gutted) they played an awesome game.
Rugby, Rugby and even more Rugby
We are hooked!!! What with the mighty stags defending all challengers to date, the All Blacks dominating and our successes in the virtual rugby competition we are feeling the love so to speak. As to date we have 89 points, 17 ahead of Max Foy and 18 ahead of Mr Witheford. We are being reminded that we need to be good winners and not gloat too much as the ITM Cup is only in it’s early stages. However we are enjoying our success long may it last.
We have been developing our drawing skills and Mrs H decided that we could use ourselves as the subject. After taking photos of our faces she cut them in half and got us to glue each half onto a blank A4 piece of paper. Next we had to complete the pictures. We got to draw us as we are and then as if our face was a mask what would be our true inner self. Here are a few, if you want to see the rest come along to our class and you will see them on display.
